Troubleshooting
The following table displays error messages and possible actions to help troubleshoot
errors with your 9180 Electrolyte Analyzer. If an error persists, contact Roche
Technical Support.
Error messages
Message Cause Action
Status: Not calibrated Calibration has been interrupted Perform calibration to return the instrument to the
READY mode
Na/K/Cl/Ca/Li not
calibrated
A specific electrode could not be calibrated.
Possible causes:
o No stable value for Standard A
o The slope A-B or A-C is outside the range
(Testing the electrodes (p. 159)).
o Perform daily maintenance. (Daily maintenance
(p. 133))
o Check if the electrode holder is locked in the back
position.
o Check for leaks, blockages and air bubbles.
o Clean or replace the electrode.
o Check the fluid remaining in the SnapPak. If less than
5% remains, replace the SnapPak. (Checking reagent
fluid level and changing the SnapPak (p. 145))
o If K
+
is still not calibrated, perform an external
electrode test using serum or plasma (Potassium
electrode not calibrated (p. 160)).
o Ensure that the electrodes are properly plugged in.
Standard A not
detected
When the analyzer aspirates Standard A
solution, it is not detected by the sample
sensor. Occasionally, this occurs because of
air bubbles in the solution.
o Check the fluid remaining in the SnapPak. If less than
5% remains, replace the SnapPak. (Checking reagent
fluid level and changing the SnapPak (p. 145))
o Check for clots or crystals that may have formed in the
Standard A tubing or the electrode chamber.
o Ensure that the sample sensor is securely plugged in
and perform the sample sensor test to ensure that the
sensor is operating correctly. If necessary, clean the
sample sensor. (Testing the sample sensor (p. 160))
o Replace the peristaltic pump tube set to ensure the
correct aspiration of Standard A. (Exchanging the
pump tubing set (p. 140))
Standard B not
detected
Standard C not
detected
(Li
+
activated)
See cause for "Standard A not detected".
o If Standard A is aspirated properly, but Standard B is
not detected, check Standard B tubing for
crystallization.
o If no crystallization or leaks are found, replace the
SnapPak. (Checking reagent fluid level and changing the
SnapPak (p. 145))
