MAPNET@ QUAD ISOLATOR BOARD (565-158)
Features and Functions
The MAPNET@ Quad Isolator provides:
l
Additional fault tolerance to MAPNEP wiring in the event of open or short circuits
.
A means of limiting the detrimental effects of an electrical failure on the MAPNET@ communication lines
l
Greater flexibility in building wiring by allowing multiple Class A (Style 6) loops from a single 4100 MAPNET@ card.
The isolator operates in conjunction with the short circuit protection already present on the 562-976 MAPNET@
Interface (Transceiver) Board. If the transceiver detects a short, it restricts power from flowing into that portion of the
line on which the short was detected. If a short is detected after power-up, the transceiver (not the isolator) shuts
down the channel for 750 milliseconds. The channel is then powered up and the isolator acts to isolate the faulty
line. The short circuit trouble clears when the short is removed from the lines. The Class A (Style 6) fault status will
clear only when the fault condition is corrected, and a System Reset has been initiated from the 4100 operator
interface panel.
In addition to short circuit protection, the isolator monitors a secondary wire pair for Class A (Style 6) supervision. If
a break in any line is detected, the isolator switches communications onto both the primary and secondary pairs.
The isolator can also be used to disconnect communication lines and shields from the transceiver to aid in the
location of earth troubles in the system as well as other installation problems.
NOTE:
This loop isolation operation can only be accomplished from the operator interface panel.
Component Locations and Functions (Figure 26)
NOTE:
The motherboard for the 565-i 58 MAPNEF Quad Isolator board is the 562-727 32-point Auxiliary (Relay)
Motherboard.
LEDs
LED1 through LED4 = Loop Trouble LEDs.
l
Will light when there is a trouble in the corresponding MAPNET@ loop.
Programmable EPROM
U11=740-748 (EPROM 27C64).
Switches
SW1 = Card Address Select Switch.
l
Identical in function to Switch SW1 in a 8-Zone Monitor Card.
l
Switch set for the lowest (base) IS0 board address, with valid addresses being 1 through 127.
