Before Using the Charger

Handle the battery safely. Failure to observe the following handling recom-
mendations could result in personal injury and/or equipment damage.
•BeforeusingaLi-ionbattery,readtheLi-ionBatterySafetyInformation(MPD-00002-xx)includedwithyour
battery,andfollowtheinstructionsitprovides.IncorrectuseofaLi-ionbatterycancauseexplosionorfire.
•Donotshort-circuitthebatterycontactstotheradio,neitherintentionallynoraccidentally,e.g.byplacingthe
batterywithconductivematerialssuchaskeysorjewelryinsideapocketorcontainer.Short-circuitingthe
batterycontactscanheatuptheconductivematerial.
•Donotobstructtheventhole(s)onthebattery.Iftheventonthebatteryisobstructedthebatterymayexplode,
causingpersonalinjuryand/orequipmentdamage.Iftheventontheradioisobstructed,audioqualityand/or
keyfunctionmaydeteriorateandradiosealsmaybedamaged.
Notice Turntheradiooffbeforeremovingthebattery,andturnitonagainafterattachingthebattery.
Thisensuresthattheradiopowersdownandupcorrectly.Failingtofollowthisproceduremay
requiretheradiotobeturnedoffthenonagaintooperatecorrectly.
Charging Temperatures
Notice Donotexposeabatterytoveryhighorverylowtemperaturesforextendedperiodsoftime.
Doingsowillshortentheusablelife(‘servicelife’)ofthebattery.
Toachievethebestresultswhenchargingthebattery:
•Beforebeginningtochargethebattery,ensurethatthebatterytemperatureisclosetotheroomtemperaturein
whichthebatteryistobecharged.
•Ifpossible,chargethebatteryintemperaturesbetween50°Fand77°F(between10°Cand
25°C).Thistemperaturerangeistheoptimalchargingrange.
Chargingonlystartswhenthebatteryisbetween32°Fto104°F(0°Cto40°C).
Whenthebatterytemperatureisoutsidethenormalchargingrange,theorangeLEDonthecharger
islit.Chargingwillstartorresumeoncethetemperatureiswithinnormallimits,andnoactionis
required.
