11. MAINTENANCE
The aim of this chapter is to provide a guide for operating on all installed components of the
freeze-dryer that require maintenance.
The maintenance plan is based in a series of inspections and operations that must be carried
out at intervals depending on the specific task that range from a daily basis up to once every
year. The corresponding information should be compiled and noted in detail in order to be
used for the following maintenance operations.
WARNING
All maintenance actions on this equipment must be performed by a qualified technician who
is familiar with the proper maintenance procedure required for this equipment. In case that
these actions are not carefully carried out, the equipment could work in abnormal conditions.
Before beginning any maintenance operation or work on the freeze-dryer, disconnect it
from the power supply.
In general, a regular inspection of the correct operation of all the components of the unit
should be performed once a year.
11.1. Cleaning and disinfection of the unit
WARNING
In case of using any solvent (isopropanol, ethanol, etc.), it is a must to follow these rules:
- Empty the condenser.
- Disinfect all the surfaces with a cloth impregnated with a disinfectant product.
- Dry immediately the surfaces with a clean and dry cloth.
It is recommended NOT to use disinfectant products containing chlorine or halogens
because they can damage the stainless steel and painted surfaces.
WARNING
After using solvents in the chamber and condenser, it is a must to ventilate during 24
hours in order to evaporate any remainder. Otherwise the methacrylate surfaces will be
damaged due to solvent action.
The normal procedure consists of a previous cleaning prior to disinfection.
For both, unit and accessories, use sterile or non-use disables cloths, which do not shed
particles or fibers.
To disinfect use cloths dampened with a disinfecting solution which do not damage or affect
the paintwork, stainless steel or chamber glass. A previous clean to disinfecting can also be
done with water.
To access to corners or difficult access zones, another type of tools will have to be used.
