SECTION 10O. GAUGES
GENERAL
Repair of gauges and sensing units are limited to the
replacement of faulty components or wiring. Before
replacing a gauge that is not working, make sure to
check for proper ground connections and perform a
voltage check at the gauge wire. If the grounds and
voltage checks are okay, a gauge that does not work is
faulty, except for a water temperature gauge which can
be tested as described below.
NOTE:
See Section 10Q for the location of all instruments
and gauges.
WATER TEMPERATURE GAUGE
TEST
Test the water temperature gauge using the following
procedure (Figure 10O-1).
1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Disconnect the lead wire to the sending unit on the
engine and ground the wire.
The gauge indicator should go all the way up. If
not, the gauge or wiring is defective and must be
replaced. If the gauge needle does go to the
upper limit but does not work during operation, the
sending unit is faulty.
