Thereareanumberoffactorsthatcancontributetounsatisfactoryqualityofcut,
someofwhichmaybeturfconditions.Theturfconditionssuchastheexcessive
thatch,sponginess,orattemptingtocutofftoomuchgrassheightmaynot
alwaysbeovercomebyadjustingthemachine.Itisimportanttorememberthat
thelowertheheight-of-cut,themorecriticalthesefactorsare.
Rememberthattheeffectiveoractualheight-of-cutdependsonthecuttingdeck
weightandturfconditions.

Checkthattheengineisrunningatthecorrect
high-idlespeed;refertoChapter3:Diesel

Alwaysmowathighenginespeed.
2.BladespeedAllthecuttingdeckbladesshouldrotateatthe
samespeed.
RefertoitemsinTroubleshooting(page4–39).
3.Tirepressure
Checktheairpressureofallthetires.Adjust
tothepressuresspeciedintheOperator’s
Manual.
4.Bladecondition
Sharpenthebladesiftheircuttingedgesare
dullornicked.
Inspectthebladesailforwearordamage.
Replacethebladeifnecessary.
5.MowerhousingconditionEnsurethatthecuttingchambersareingood
condition.
Keeptheundersideofthedeckclean.The
unwantedmaterialbuildupcanreducethe
cuttingperformance.
6.Height-of-cut
Ensurethatallthecuttingdecksareset
atthesameheight-of-cut.Adjustthedeck
asspeciedintheCuttingDeckOperator’s
Manual.Theeffective(actual)height-of-cut
maybedifferentthanthebenchset
height-of-cut.
Adjusttheheight-of-cutsettingtoremoveonly
25mm(1inch)or1/3ofthegrassbladewhen
cutting.
7.CuttingdeckalignmentandgroundfollowingChecktheliftarmsandcuttingdeckpivot
linkagesforwear,damage,orbinding.Also,
inspectforbentordamagedpivotshafts.
8.Rollercondition
Allrollersshouldrotatefreely.Replacethe
bearingsiftheyarewornordamaged.
9.GrassconditionsMowwhenthegrassisdryforbestcutting
results.
10.Machinetractionspeed
Mowingattoofastofatractionspeedwill
resultinpooraftercutappearanceandmissed
patchesofgrass.
