regulations.Theenginefeaturesincludeanelectroniccontrolunit(ECU)that
controlsacommonrailfuelinjectionsystemwithdirectinjection,water-cooled
exhaustgasrecirculation(EGR),anelectronicgovernor,anexhaustsystem
dieseloxidationcatalyst(DOC),anexhaustdiesel-particulatelter(DPF)with
activeregeneration,andaturbochargertopressurizetheairwhichowsinto
theengine(theturbochargerisdrivenbyaturbinethatisenergizedbyexhaust
gases).Glowplugsareusedtoassiststartingtheengine.Numerousengine
sensorsareusedtoallowtheengineECUtomonitorandcontroltheengine
operationforoptimumengineperformance.
TheengineECU,combinedwithnumerousenginesensors,monitorandcontrol
theengineoperationforoptimumperformance.Duringtheoperationofthe
engine,ifconditionswarrant,theengineECUmaygenerateanenginefault.Use

(page5–34),theYanmarTroubleshootingManual,orcontactanAuthorized
ToroDistributorforassistance.
DieselParticulateFilter(DPF)
Thedieselparticulatelter(DPF)usedonYanmarTier4Fcompliantenginesis
designedtobreakdownthehazardouselementsintheexhaustandpreventthe
dischargeofunburntfueloroilknownasparticulatematterorsoot.TheDPF
includesaDieselOxidationCatalyst(DOC),aSootFilter(SF),2temperature
sensors,andapressuredifferentialsensor.Additionalinformationregardingthe
DieselParticulateFilter(DPF)canbefoundintheYanmarOperationManual-
IndustrialEnginesTNVsuppliedwithyourmachine.
Regeneration
TheengineECUmonitorstheexhaustpressurebeforeandafterthesootlter
intheDPFtodetermineifsootisaccumulating.Ifsootisaccumulatingduring
normalengineoperation,thepressuredifferentialwillincrease.Theincrease
inpressurewillsignaltheenginetobeginaprocesscalledRegeneration.
Regenerationincreasestheexhausttemperatureandthelengthoftimethe
engineoperatesatahigherthannormalexhausttemperature,incineratingthe
