CHAPTER 10
Applications
10-1
The following discussion covers just a few of the many applications
for the CPC.
Clean Air
The 3022A CPC is ideal for measuring low particle concentrations.
Since the particle-pulse amplitude is relatively high, there is little
likelihood of falsely triggering on electrical noise when no particles
are present. The accuracy of the single-particle-counting mode is
limited only by the accuracy of the flowrate.
However, the 3022A CPC may not be suitable for placement in very
clean areas since its pump, fan and hot electrical components may
produce some contaminating particles. If you wish to use the CPC
in a cleanroom or clean zone, place the instrument downstream
and out of the way of any critical clean areas.
The Model 3010 CPC, the Model 7610 (formerly Model 3760) or
Model 7620 (formerly Model 3761) Cleanroom CPC is more suitable
for monitoring clean areas because these instruments are designed
not to produce particles. Please contact TSI for more information
about these CPCs.
Using the CPC With a Multiplexer/Processor
The TSI line of Multiplexer/Processors (M/P) are central, data
collection and data processing instruments for up to 16 cleanroom-
monitoring particle sensors or environmental sensors. They require
a digital, 13-volt input pulse, 6.4-microseconds wide. The
maximum concentration that can be collected is 350 particles/cm

provides the correct digital pulse output for the M/P.
