Operation and Display 3-3
Display
The button labeled Display allows you to display two types of
information: concentration (CONC) and total count (COUNT).
Pushing the button toggles between the two types.
The concentration value is averaged over a specific period of time
according to the magnitude of the concentration. The data is
displayed in units of particles/cm
3
. Detailed information about
concentration averaging is given in Chapter 6.
The total counts represent a cumulative number of particles up to
99,999,999. For the count to be valid, the concentration must be
below 10
3
particles/cm
3
(single-particle counting mode). If the
maximum count is exceeded, the display is overranged—indicated
by flashing display.
Total
Press the button labeled Total to start and stop the count totalizer.
The sample automatically stops when the time is equal to the pre-
programmed time setting that you enter during setup (see
Chapter 4). The maximum particle count is 99,999,999. If the
count is exceeded, the totalizer stops counting and displays
99,999,999.
When counting is in progress, a star flashes on the left side of the
display. If the star does not appear, then counting has stopped. The
totalizer is operational even if the display shows averaged concen-
tration and not the count total.
Clear
Press the button labeled Clear to clear the buffers for storing total
values and concentration averaging values.
