9-4 Model 3022A Condensation Particle Counter
Pump Exhaust Filter (DQ)
The pump exhaust filter is located between the exit port of the
pump and the pump exhaust fitting on the back panel. The filter is
not necessary to run the CPC but reduces noise from the pump and
filters any particles generated from the pump that pass to the
exhaust port. In time, the filter becomes clogged and causes the
pump to work too hard.
To replace the filter using the replacement in the accessory kit,
remove the cabinet covers and remove the filter from the pump
exhaust fitting. Remove the tubing from both ends of the muffler
and replace them with new.
To order the pump exhaust filter, order part number 1602080 from
TSI; or order filter no. DFU-9933-05-DQ directly from the

Checking the CPC for Leaks
A leak anywhere in the CPC sensor upstream of the flowmeter
changes the flowrate of the sample air. Symptoms of a leak include
incorrect flows, incorrect particle concentrations, as well as larger
and/or wider photodetector pulse heights than are indicated by the
calibration data sheet.
To check the CPC for leaks, perform the following eight steps.
1. Drain the liquid and switch off the power.
2. Remove the top cabinet cover.
3. Disconnect the pump from the leak-check by disconnecting the
Swagelok fitting on the exit side of the HEPA filter.
