c - Vertical Resolution - Determine how many drops of ink are shot vertically per inch
during printing. This determines the ink density, whether 300, 600, 720, 800, 1000 or
1200 ink drops are to be shot per every inch. Note that different settings also require
different color intensities and ICC profiles because the ink application is very different.
Please note: The higher the vertical resolution, the more ink drops will be printed on
the surface! This makes image appear denser and "fuller", but can also lead to
falsification of colors and image details. A general rule cannot be defined here, as it
depends much too much on the type of background and the type of motif.
We found that drawings (such as comics) look much stronger and more intense with a
vertical resolution of 720 DPI than i.e. with just 300 DPI. Also photos with detailed color
gradients look more detailed and nuanced with 720 DPI than with just 300 or 600 DPI. If
you want to achieve the effect that the print result is as intense and "flashy" as possible,
then you should choose a vertical resolution of 720 DPI. As a general rule of thumb it is
recommended to use 720 DPI vertically to archive the best printing results.
For most motives a resolution of 185 and 720 DPI doesn't make sense. These two
resolutions are more suitable for special applications or experiments.
Please contact us before using vertical resolutions of 1000 and 1200 DPI, because it will
require to decrease the vertical axis speed.
d - Uni-/Bi-Directional Printing - These settings determine whether the printer only
prints upwards and makes an downward empty run (unidirectional) or whether the
printer prints upwards and downwards (bidirectional). If the switch is deactivated, the
printer prints upwards after starting, moves downwards empty, moves upwards again
printing downwards empty and so on. This method is chosen if an offset of the upward
to downward printed drops is to be avoided as far as possible. The output becomes
more precise as the ink is always applied from the same direction (bottom to top) and
cured immediately.
If the switch is activated (= bidirectional printing), the system prints immediately after
the starts prining and curing upward, stps sideways at the top, prints and cures
downwards, steps sideways, prints and cures upwards and so on. The advantage of
bidirectional printing is that it is almost twice as fast as unidirectional printing, but the
ink drops are not applied as precisely and a slight drop misalignment may occur. In the
printer options (see section "Software - wallPen Control", a compensation value can
almost eliminate this offset, so that most motifs are printed bidirectionally.
