The CMYK Color Model
In comparison to RGB, the CMYK color model is a "subtractive color model". This
means that the addition of its basic colors cyan, magenta and yellow on a white
background results (at least theoretically) in black....
The illustration above shows that the mixture of yellow and magenta on a white
background results in red, magenta and cyan result in blue and cyan, yellow turns out
to be green. The combination of all three colors in the center is (almost) black.
However, since the mixture of yellow, cyan and magenta does not result a "deep black",
but rather a deep dark brown, black is used as a fourth color. For this reason the letter
"K" in CMYK does not stand for "blacK", but for "Key", since "Black" is regarded as a
"supportive color".
