Clusterisacombinationofagroupofswitchesinaspecicbroad-
castdomain.Thisgroupofswitchesformsauniedmanagement
domainwhichprovidesapublicnetworkIPaddressandaman-
agementinterfacetotheoutsideandprovidesthefunctionsof
managingandaccessingeverymemberinthecluster .
ThemanagementswitchwhichcongurespublicnetworkIPad-
dressiscalledcommandswitchandothermanagedswitchesare
calledmemberswitches.Generally,publicnetworkIPaddressis
notconguredforthememberswitchbutaprivateaddressisas-
signedtothememberswitchwithsimilarDHCPfunctionofthe
commandswitch.Commandswitchandmemberswitchforma
cluster(privatenetwork).
Itissuggestedtoisolatethebroadcastdomainofthepublicnet-
workandthatoftheprivatenetworkonthecommandswitch,
andshieldthedirectaccesstotheprivateaddress.Thecommand
switchprovidesamanagementandmaintenancechanneltothe
outsidetomanagetheclusterinacentralizedanduniedmanner .
Abroadcastdomainisusuallycomposedoffourkindsofswitches:
commandswitch,memberswitch,candidateswitchandindepen-
dentswitch.
Thereisonlyonecommandswitchinacluster .Commandswitch
cancollectequipmenttopologyandestablishaclusterautomati-
cally.Aftertheclusterisestablished,commandswitchprovidesa
managementchannelforclustertomanagememberswitch.Mem-
berswitchservesasacandidateswitchbeforebeingaddedinto
cluster .Switchwhichdoesnotsupportclustermanagementis
calledindependentswitch.
