Atmost9devicescomposeastacksystembystackport.Each
stacksystemonlyhasonemaindevice.
Ifanindependentdeviceenablesstackitisstacksystemitselfand
themaindeviceisitself.Iftwostacksystemscanbecombined
togetheranindependentswitchcanbeaddedintoanexistingstack
systemtoincreasethemembernumberofthisstacksystem.
Ifastackmemberinthestacksystemisreplacedbytheswitch
withthesamemodelandthememberIDofthisswitchissameas
thatoftheoriginalstackmember ,thisswitchwillimplementthe
samecongurationthatissameasthecongurationofreplaced
stackmember .
Whentworunningstacksystemscombinetogether ,amainde-
vicewillbeselectedfromthetwomaindevicesforthereason
thatthetwostacksystemshavetheirownmaindevices.These-
lectionruleissameastheonethatthemaindeviceisselected
fromstackmembers.Themaindeviceselectedagainandroles
andcongurationofallstackmembersinwhichthemaindevice
is.Allmembersofthestacksystemwhichfailsinselectionwill
restartandjointhisstacksystem.Duringthisjoiningprocess,
theseswitchmemberIDswillpossiblybeallocatedagain.After
joining,theywillimplementthecongurationofthemaindevice
selectedagain.
Ifneitheroriginalmaindevicenororiginalstandbydeviceisin
theseparatestacksystemallmembersofthisstacksystemwill
restart.Inaddition,becausethecongurationofeachstacksys-
temissameIPaddresswillbeincollision.IPaddressofthenew
stacksystemneedtobemodied.Ifthestacksystemisnotbe
dividedintentionallytheoperationisasfollows:
1.Turnoffpowersofallswitchesinthenewstacksystem.
2.Connecttheseswitcheswiththeoriginalstacksystem.
3.Openthepoweroftheseswitches.

Stacksystemmaindeviceelectionandrenewedelectionwillcom-
plywiththefollowingrules:
1.Thecurrentswitchismaindeviceofstacksystem.
2.Theswitchmemberpriorityisthehighest.Whenyouwant
aswitchtobethemaindeviceofstacksystem,congureits
prioritythehighest.
3.TheMACaddressoftheswitchisthesmallestwhenmember
prioritiesaresame.
Maindevicewillchangewhenthefollowinghappen.
