Planning the electrical installation
What this chapter contains
This chapter contains the instructions that you must follow when selecting the motor,
the cables, the protections, the cable routing and the way of operation for the drive
system.
Note: The installation must always be designed and made according to applicable
local laws and regulations. ABB does not assume any liability whatsoever for any
installation which breaches the local laws and/or other regulations. Furthermore, if
the recommendations given by ABB are not followed, the drive may experience
problems that the warranty does not cover.
Selecting the supply disconnecting device (disconnecting means)
The drive is equipped with a main switch disconnector as standard.
Checking the compatibility of the motor and drive
Use an AC induction motor or a permanent magnet synchronous motor with the
drive. Several induction motors can be connected at a time but only one permanent
magnet motor. Controlling a permanent magnet motor is only allowed using the
ACS800 permanent magnet synchronous machine control program or other
application programs in scalar control mode.
Select the motor and drive according to the rating tables in chapter Technical data.
Use the DriveSize PC tool if the default load cycles are not applicable.
1. Check that the motor ratings lie within the allowed ranges of the drive control
program:
• motor nominal voltage is in the range of 1/2 … 2 · U

• motor nominal current is 1/6 ... 2 · I

in scalar control. The control mode is selected by a drive parameter.
