Introduction
This section introduces you to Agilent dissolution testing software and
explains how to use this handbook to install the hardware and software.
What is Dissolution Testing?
The dissolution testing software for the Agilent 8453 UV-visible
spectrophotometer and Agilent ChemStation automates totally the process of
measuring the rates of release of active ingredients from formulations into
solutions. Your dissolution testing software is provided on CD-ROM to install
and operate in the graphic environment of the supported Microsoft Windows
operating system(s). For details see the Specifications for your Agilent
ChemStation for UV-visible Spectroscopy Systems. The software automates
the sampling, measuring, data processing, and reporting of the dissolution
test. The dissolution testing software requires that you develop your own
specific testing method for either single-component or multicomponent
analysis. The software provides all the necessary features for developing a test
method.
The dissolution testing software samples and measures your samples
automatically in the Agilent 8453 UV-visible spectrophotometer. The software
compares the absorbance measurements with previously measured known
standards. The software calculates the concentration of component in your
samples and calculates dissolution results automatically.
You choose in your test method the dissolution results that you want reported.
The dissolution testing software calculates the following choices of dissolution
results for the ingredient of interest:
• % Dissolved or released
• Weight dissolved or released per tablet
• Weight dissolved or released per weight of tablet
These results are based on label weight or on tablet weight.
