To pan in surround using the Channel Encoders:
1 Select a track assigned to a multichannel output path (such as a 5.1 or 7.1 output path).
2 Press Pan. The first Multichannel pan parameters such as Front Left/Right (for 5.1 outputs) appear on the Channel Encoders.
3 Press the lit Page > switch to show other available pan parameters.
4 Rotate an Encoder to adjust the selected parameter.
5 To reset a parameter to its default setting, press the Encoder for that parameter.

2 Press the Channel Control Encoder under the display showing Pan. Multichannel pan parameters appear across
Channel Control.

To record enable additional tracks:
Hold SHIFT/Multi Select and press additional channel Rec switches.
To record enable all tracks:

Flipping Encoder Parameters to Faders
S3 lets you “flip” parameters mapped to the Channel Encoders to the faders and the track level control to the Channel Encoder. The
following example shows how to flip pan to faders. Flip also works with sends and plug-ins.
To flip sends to faders:
1 Select a track that has one or more sends assigned to it.
2 Press Pan.
3 Press Flip.
4 Adjust a fader to adjust pan for the corresponding track.
5 Adjust the Channel Encoder to adjust track level for the corresponding track.
6 Press Flip again to flip parameters back to the Channel Encoders.
You can set Pro Tools Preferences for latching record enable, so you don’t have to hold the Shift key to record enable additional
tracks. For more information, see the Pro Tools Reference Guide.
