Step 5: Fine-tune the Vehicle’s Response Smoothness
You can soen and smooth vehicle response by conguring the Gear Soen and So Start parameters:
Gear Soen denes how the vehicle decelerates when the throttle is released to neutral
and accelerates when the throttle is reapplied.
So Start denes how the vehicle accelerates when starting from neutral.
For details on these parameters, see Other Menu on page 29.
Note: e Gear Soen and So Start parameters have the most noticeable eect on older, worn
transaxles.
To tune the vehicles response smoothness, take the following steps.
1. Select Program » Application Setup » Speed Mode » Other.
2. Set Gear Soen to 0%.
3. Set So Start to 0%.
4. Congure the Gear Soen parameter by taking the following steps:
a. While driving at both high and low speeds, release the throttle to neutral, then reapply the
throttle before coming to a complete stop. Notice how the transaxle gears bump as you
reapply the throttle.
b. Change Gear Soen from 0% to 100% and repeat the previous step. Notice how increasing
the parameter soens the slope transition while adding a small amount of nonlinearity to
the acceleration rate.
c. Set Gear Soen to a value that you think will provide the desired soening and acceleration
or deceleration.
d. While driving at both high and low speeds, release the throttle to neutral, then reapply the
throttle before coming to a complete stop.
e. Repeat the previous two steps until the vehicle drives smoothly and with a high degree of
responsiveness.
