3.2 MULTIDROP STAR-SYSTEM™ NETWORK LAYOUTS
Even though many stand alone systems can operate in the same physical area without
interfering with each other, it may be desirable to bridge data from multiple cradles in a
network to a single
Host. Each OM-DRAGON™ cradle is designed to connect with
other cradles in order to build an RS485 Multidrop cradle network that is STAR-
System™ compatible. This network provides seamless active roaming for any RF
reading device in the system.
3.2.1 Host Master Layout
A. Host Master with STAR-Link™
B. STAR-Boxconverter
C. OM-DRAGON™ Slave cradles
D. STARGATE™ base station
Example Multidrop STAR-System™ Network with Host as Master
In this layout the Host acts as the Master using STAR-Link™ software. The Host is
connected in RS232 to a STAR-Box converter which is connected to the first slave in
the RS485 network. In this way the Master cradle provides communications between a
single Host
and all readers in the system. STARGATE™ base stations can also be
used as slaves in this network. The Slaves at the ends of the network must be
terminated (see par. 2.6.3).
See pars. 4.5 and 4.6 or the Sm@rtSet Help On-Line for system configuration
specifications.
