Installing the processor and extended heat sink module
Prerequisites
Never remove the heat sink from a processor unless you intend to replace the processor or system board. The heat sink is
necessary to maintain proper thermal conditions.
1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
2. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system .
3. Remove the processor air shroud.
4. If applicable, remove the OCP card.
5. Remove the OCP riser.
6. If applicable, remove the processor and heat sink module.
NOTE: The procedure to install the heat sink is the same for Rear Accessed and Front Accessed configurations.
Steps
1. Set the anti-tilt wires to the unlocked position on the heat sink (inward position).
2. Align the pin 1 indicator of the extended heat sink to the system board, and then place the processor and extended heat sink
on the processor socket.
CAUTION: To avoid damaging the fins on the heat sink, do not press down on the heat sink fins.
NOTE: Ensure that the processor and extended heat sink is held parallel to the system board to prevent damaging the
components.
