Remove the battery from the battery bay.

Open the display.

Press the power button to ground the system board.
CAUTION: To guard against electrical shock, always unplug your computer from
the electrical outlet before opening the display.
NOTICE: Before touching anything inside your computer, ground yourself by
touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the metal at the back of the computer.
While you work, periodically touch an unpainted metal surface to dissipate static
electricity, which could harm internal components.

Remove any installed PC Cards from the PC Card slot.

Remove any installed modules, including a second battery, if installed.

Remove the hard drive (see "Removing the Hard Drive" on page 183).
Optical Drive
Your computer ships with a fixed optical drive installed.
NOTICE: To help prevent damage to drives, store them in a safe, dry place when
they are not installed in the computer. Avoid pressing down on them or placing
heavy objects on top of them.

Follow the instructions in "Before Working Inside Your Computer" on
page 180.

Turn the computer over and remove the M2.5 x 8-mm device security
screw labeled with a lock icon ( ).

Insert a screwdriver into the indentation for the device security screw, push
the notch on the metal tab and slide it towards the side of the computer to
release the drive from the bay.
