4.5.3 Diagnostics
There are three utilities to diagnose the network, including Ping, Traceroute and Nslookup.
Ping is used to examine whether a network works normally through sending test packets and calculating
response time.
Instructions for using Ping:
1. Enter the IP address or domain name of a network, a website or a device in the input box of Ping, and
then click Ping.
2. If related messages are received, it means the network works normally; otherwise, the network is not
connected or is connected faultily.
Traceroute is used to determine a route from one IP address to another.
Instruction for using Traceroute:
1. Enter the IP address or domain name of a destination device in the input box of Traceroute, and then
click Traceroute.
2. View the route information from the returned message.
Nslookup (Name Server Lookup) is a network command-line tool to obtain domain name of internet or to
diagnose the problems of DNS.
