5.2.3 FD Belt Tension Adjustment
Purpose: Make this adjustment to avoid idling of the ASF Motor (fatal error)
and broken wire of the coil in the motor due to abnormal heating.
Things to be used
Tension meter
Tweezers (Made of plastic)
Phillips screwdriver
Printer condition: Printer Mechanism (p.107)
Ink System Assy (p.112)
ASF Drive Assy (p.113) have been removed.
Adjustment procedure

Step Procedure
1
Confirm the installation of the FD Timing Belt.
2
Press the POWER button. (No. 0 or No. 1 will appear on the LCD.)
3
Select the channel for making further settings by pressing the SELECT button for a
number from No. 0 ~ No. 9. (The default value will be used without any problem when
selection is omitted.)
4
Set the following parameters:
WEIGHT : 1.3g/m
WIDTH : 003.0 mm
SPAN : 0127 mm
5
Bring the microphone surface as close to the center of belt tension as possible.
Note : Use the tip of a pair of tweezers for the timing belt plucking operation of the
above steps, but be careful that the plucked belt does not come in contact with
the microphone.
6
Press the MEASURE button. (“----” will appear on the LCD.)
7
Grasp the Timing Belt with the tip of a pair of tweezers and pull the belt downwards to
pluck it.
The “----” line on the LCD will wave, and a high-pitched beep will notify you of the
completion of measurement when the result is displayed in units of “N” on the LCD.
Regardless of the force applied to pluck the Timing Belt, the instrument can measure
the tension by picking up the acoustic tone accurately, and the result is displayed in "N"
units (Newton).
8
Repeat steps 6 ~ 7 and adjust the tension by shifting the tensioner mounting position
adjuster finely so that the tension falls within the specified limits.

If plucking the belt is not reflected on the LCD at all, try
plucking the belt again after waiting 2 ~ 3 seconds.
Ensure a quiet environment for accurate measurement so that
the microphone will not pick up surrounding noises.
If measurement results significantly differ, there is a high
possibility that the acoustic tone was not picked up accurately
in some measurements. In such a case, pluck the belt again
with tweezers and record the value that approximates the
results of two measurements. Displayed values are highly
reliable, with an error factor of 1/100 ~ 5/100.
Standard Value is : 1.2 ± 0.1 N.m
Tensioner screw tightening torque: 0.8 ± 0.1 N⋅m
