Activating with AUTO START
(available for the VIO
100 C only)
The AUTO START function is only available for the COAG current of the bipolar socket.
The AUTO START function causes the COAG current to activate automatically after you
have used a bipolar instrument to grasp the tissue to be coagulated.
The power limitation level can be set to max. 50 watts.
You can use the AUTO START function if the AUTO START indicator light of the bipolar
socket is illuminated.
Fig. 6-8
How to assign the AUTO START function to the bipolar socket is described on page 60.
Use the bipolar instrument to grasp the tissue to be coagulated.
The unit activates the COAG current automatically.
Activation of the COAG current ends when you open or remove the instrument from
tissue.
Change power limitation
To optimize the coagulation results, it may be necessary to change the CUT or COAG
power limitation during use.
The power limitation is a measure of the intensity of the coagulation for both the CUT
and COAG modes. A higher power limitation means faster coagulation or a deeper co
-
agulation zone during the same activation period.
A power limitation as low as possible protects the patient and instrument from injury
or damage.
WARNING
Power setting too high, ON time too long
The higher the power setting, the longer the ON time of the unit,
the greater the risk of accidental tissue damage.
Risk of accidental tissue damage to the patient!
Set power as low as possible relative to the required surgical ef-
fect. If the required surgical effect is not achieved, increase the
power.
Activate the unit for as short a time as possible relative to the re-
quired surgical effect.
The temperature at the neutral electrode site increases during
long and continuous activations; therefore, ensure that the cool-
ing phases between activations are sufficient.
If you are unable to achieve a surgical effect with a power setting
/ ON time that is sufficient judging from experience, this can be
due to a problem with the electrosurgical unit or accessories:
Check the instrument regularly for soiling with insulating tissue
remnants. Clean the instrument if it has become soiled.
Check the neutral electrode to make sure it is secure.
Check the connectors on all cords to make sure they are secure.
