Replacing an MDR Roller
Before attempting to repair or replace a drive roller, control card, controller device,
or any other device connected to these components, be sure that power to the
controls is locked out to prevent premature or accidental startup. Failure to follow
this instruction may result in serious personal injury, equipment damage, or death.
1. Turn off and lockout/tagout all power supplies to the conveyor.
2. Disconnect the power cable from the control card that controls the failed drive roller.
3. Disconnect the drive roller cable from the control card.
4. At the failed drive roller, diagram the specific configuration and positions of the O-
belts on the drive roller and the carrier rollers.
5. Remove the axle locks.
Note: The axle locks should also be changed when a drive roller is replaced.
6. Use a tool, such as a screw driver, to depress the spring-loaded axle (the end with
no connecting wires).
7. Slide a putty knife or similar tool between the spring-loaded axle and the frame to
keep the axle depressed while lifting the drive roller end away from the frame.
8. Remove the opposite end of the roller from the frame, threading the wires and
connector carefully through the conveyor frame.
9. Follow these instructions to install the replacement drive roller:
a. Thread the wires and connector of the replacement roller through the conveyor
frame, being careful not to damage the wires or connector.
