Perform these steps to initialize a drives:
1. Open the physical tab in the DS Storage Manager (Subsystem Management) window and
select one or more drives to be initialized. You can select more than one drive by clicking
on each drive while simultaneously pressing the CTRL key.
2. Select the Advanced Recovery Initialize Drive menu command.
3. You will be asked to confirm that you want to proceed. Type “yes” in the textbox and click
OK to continue.
Initialize - Logical Drive
A logical drive is automatically initialized when it is first created. However, the Recovery Guru
might advise you to manually initialize a logical drive to recover from certain failure conditions.
Keep these guidelines in mind before you initialize a logical drive:
򐂰 Use this option only under the guidance of your IBM Customer Support representative.
򐂰 You cannot cancel the operation after it starts.
򐂰 Do not use this option if any modification operations are in progress on the logical drive or
the array.
򐂰 Do not change the cache parameters of the logical drive while the Initialization operation is
in progress.
Perform these steps to initialize a logical drive:
1. Select the logical drive to be initialized in the Logical tab of the DS Storage Manager
(Subsystem Management) window.
2. Select the Advanced Recovery Initialize Logical drive menu command.
3. You will be asked to confirm that you want to proceed. Type “yes” in the textbox and click
OK to continue.
4. You can monitor the progress of the logical drive initialization by selecting the logical drive
in the Logical tab, as shown in Figure 14-128 on page 424.
Attention: Initializing a logical drive, will destroy all the data on those drives. If the
Recovery Guru advises that you initialize a logical drive then you should contact your IBM
Customer Support representative before you begin this procedure.
