DIMM installation sequence
Depending on the server model, the server may come with a minimum of one 2
GB or 4 GB DIMM installed in slot 1. When you install additional DIMMs, install
them in the order shown in the following table to optimize system performance.
In general, all three channels on the memory interface for each microprocessor can
be populated in any order and have no matching requirements.

Replacing a memory module
Use this information to replace a memory module.
About this task
To install a memory module, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the safety information that begins on “Safety” on page vii and
“Installation guidelines” on page 122.
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords
and all external cables, if necessary.
3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 126).
4. Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 129).
5. Touch the static-protective package that contains the DIMM to any unpainted
metal surface on the outside of the server. Then, remove the DIMM from the
package.
6. Carefully open the retaining clips on each end of the DIMM connector
