19 Remove the rotating assembly 20 by carefully
retaining it in the housing assembly 40. Lift the
housing and rotating assembly and turn over
assemblies allowing the rotating assembly to slide
down the input shaft and out of the pump housing.
20 With the rotating assembly 20 removed, remove the
piston assembly 20a, spider 20b and spider pivot 20c
from the piston block 20d.
21 Inspect the piston assembly, spider, spider pivot and
piston block. The piston block assembly usually
requires no further dismantling unless the pins 20e or
block spring 20f are damaged.
22 When any excessive wear or scratches are noted on
the face of the piston block, the block assembly must
be replaced.
DO NOT LAP THE FACE OF PISTON BLOCK
ASSEMBLY.
23 To remove the input shaft assembly, use a pair of
internal snap ring pliers and remove the shaft seal
retaining ring 21 from the housing assembly.
24 With the retaining ring removed, use a small press to
press the shaft seal and input shaft assembly from the
housing assembly.
25 Dismantle the shaft assembly for inspection by
removing shaft seal 22, washer 23, retaining ring 24,
thrust washers 25 and bearing 26.
26 To remove the cam plate 35 from the housing
assembly, use a 9/16 in. socket and remove the three
cap screws 28 retaining the trunnion cover plate
assembly 29. Start with the cover plate at the control
shaft end first.
27 Insert two small screwdrivers in the notches located
in the cover plate assembly and prise the cover off.
Make sure bearing cup 30 comes off with the cover
plate.
Note: The crush ring 31 in the control arm trunnion cover
does not need to be removed. The only time the crush ring
needs to be removed is when either the trunnion cover, the
cam plate assembly or the housing assembly is replaced.
A shim kit is then required in place of the crush ring.
28 Reposition the pump assembly to remove the
opposite cover plate 34. The bearing cup in this cover
plate is a press fit and not removable. Repeat steps
26 and 27.
Note: The cam plate control shaft will exit either side of the
pump housing. Be sure to note on which side of the
housing the control end protrudes before removing cam
plate from housing to ensure correct re-assemble.
29 With the housing in the upright position, slide the cam
plate 35 toward the control side and lift it from the
pump housing.
30 Remove ‘O’ rings 36 and 37 from the two counter-
bores in the housing or the cover plates.
31 To remove the control side cover plate lip seal 32, use
a small press and press the seal inward.
32 Remove thrust plate 38 from the cam plate. The thrust
plate is reversible and either side may face the cam
plate.
33 Inspect the housing front needle bearing 39. If the
needles remain in their cage and move freely,
replacement is usually not required. Renew the
bearing if in doubt (see assembly).
