Assembly
Before reassembling the pump, replace all worn and
damaged parts, assemblies, seals and ‘O’ rings. Lubricate
the seals and ‘O’ rings with petroleum jelly to help retain
them during assembly and to provide lubrication to the
input and control shaft seals. Lubricate all finished part
surfaces freely with clean hydraulic fluid to help provide
start up lubrication between all rotating parts.
1 If needle bearing 39 is to be replaced, press in to the
dimension shown below with the numbered end
facing away from housing 40.

2 Fit cam plate assembly 35 into the pump housing 40
by tilting it slightly and installing the control end
through the previously noted or marked side of the
housing.
3 With the cam plate installed, lubricate the tapered
bearing on the non-control arm side of the cam plate.
4 Lubricate and install ‘O’ ring 36 into the counter-bore
of the housing.
5 Install trunnion cover 34 over the bearing and onto the
pump housing. Install the three cap screws 33 and
torque to 41 Nm (30 lbf ft).
6 Lubricate and install the control arm shaft seal 32 into
the control arm trunnion cover 29. Install with the lip
of the seal facing towards the inside of the pump.
7 If the housing, trunnion covers or cam plate assembly
have not been renewed, the existing crush ring 31
may be re-used. If any of the above items has been
renewed, a shim kit must be used in place of the
crush ring.
8 Place bearing cup 30 into trunnion cover 29 over the
crush ring or shims.
9 Lubricate and install ‘O’ ring 37 into the counter-bore
of housing.
10 Install trunnion cover 29 over the control shaft and
into the pump housing. Install the three retaining cap
screws 28 and torque to 41 Nm (30 lbf ft).
11 Tilt the cam plate back and forth to check the trunnion
bearing preload. The preload is correct when the cam
plate has a very slight tilting resistance. The cam
plate must not have any side clearance.
12 Assemble the input shaft by installing first thrust
washer 25, thrust bearing 26, second thrust washer
25, retaining ring 24, washer 23 and shaft seal 22.
The lip of the seal must point towards the centre of the
input shaft.
13 Install the input shaft assembly into the housing. Push
the shaft seal in just far enough so you can start the
shaft seal retaining ring 21.
14 Install retaining snap ring 21 into the housing
assembly.
15 Use a seal driver or similar tool to press the snap ring
and seal into the housing assembly. Press inward
until snap ring 21 snaps into the groove in the pump
housing.
16 Thrust plate 38 is reversible. Either side will fit into the
cam plate. If any irregularities are noted, renew the
thrust plate.
17 Lubricate and install the thrust plate over the input
shaft assembly and into the cam plate. The thrust
plate must rest firmly in its pocket in the cam plate.
18 Assemble the rotating assembly 20 by first aligning
the splines in the pivot 20c with the splines in the
block 20d. Install the pivot on the block assembly pins
20e.
19 Use a small socket or similar tool to help retain the
pivot in the centred position. Lubricate and install the
spider 20b and piston assembly 20a onto the pivot
20c and pistons into the piston block 20d.
