7 LUBRICATION
Introduction
Hinge points and metal-to-metal contact points in the RES must be lubricated according to the
lubrication schedule. All these points are initially lubricated in the factory but will need
additional lubrication during the lifespan of the sailplane. This section describes the lubrication
requirements of the RES.
Lubricants
The bearing surfaces must be lubricated with good quality grease. Most automobile greases
are suitable. The following should not be used on the system:
• Thin spray penetrating oils, as these evaporate off fairly quickly.
• Any oils and greases containing silicon.
• Oils and greases containing Molybdenum Disulphide MoS
2
are unsuitable on copper
and brass bearings.
Lubrication plan
The lubrication is required annually as listed. See illustrations below:
• Door hinges.
• Ball links on the ends of the door pushrods.
• Bushes on the end of the actuator.
