Section 3 Installation

Installing the Transducer
About the Transducer
The transducer sends ultrasonic signals down into the water. The signals
travel down until they hit an object or the seabed and then return to the
transducer. The unit measures the time it takes the signals to go down and return
to the transducer, then converts the data into electronic signals, which are then
converted to images on your display. The echoes form an image indicating your
depth, fish, and the contour and condition (hard, soft etc.) of the seabed.
The transducer is the heart of the FF50 operation. It is a delicate instrument
and should be handled carefully. The position that you mount the transducer is
extremely important and this directly affects the performance and operating
efficiency of the unit. Please read this section carefully and follow these
instructions when you install the transducer.

Mounting Location
To ensure the best performance, the sensor must be submerged in
aeration-free and turbulence-free water. Mount the sensor close to the centerline
of the boat. On slower heavier displacement hulls, positioning it farther from the
centerline is acceptable.
Allow adequate space above the bracket for it to release and rotate the sensor
upward (see Figure 3-4).
