3.17 Artifact Evaluation
3.17.1 Test Objective
To ensure the images being produced are free of any artifacts that can compromise the interpretation of the clinical
image. At least one image should be obtained for each imaging mode and target îš¿lter combination in use. This test
should be performed for all imaging cassettes in use. A standard delay (2min. recommended) between exposure and
reader insertion should be used for all imaging cassettes.
3.17.2 Frequency
• Initially before patients are imaged
• ANNUALLY
• Whenever artifact problem is suspected
3.17.3 Required Equipment
• 1cm of PMMA (acrylic) phantom
• All REGIUS cassettes in use

• All surfaces including paddle and acrylics must be cleaned.

• kVp: most commonly used clinical setting
• mAs: most commonly used clinical setting; or AEC setting
• Compress paddle on top of the 1cm of acrylic
• Select the appropriate patient and exam tag (Artifact Small and Artifact Large)

• Perform exposure, wait 2 minutes and then process the cassette.
• Record the REGIUS cassette barcode, kVp, and whether AEC was used.
