3.18 Inter-Plate Consistency
Chapter 3
3.18.7 Documentation
Record the results in the Table MP-15 (SNR) (Inter-Plate Consistency) and the Table MP-S (MEDICAL PHYSICIST'S
MAMMOGRAPHY QC TEST SUMMARY).

• The following is an informative guide to an alternative procedure for Inter-Plate Consistency test. Since S value is a direct
measure of the pixel value of an acquired image (before such image post-processing as Automatic Gradation Processing)
using the REGIUS plate, any inter-plate variation in the response characteristics results in variation in S values.
Test Objective
• To ensure that each imaging plate in use provides a uniform response to radiation under standardized conditions by
checking their S value consistency.
Frequency
• Initially at installation
• ANNUALLY
• Before introducing new REGIUS plates or cassettes
Required Equipment
• 1cm of PMMA (acrylic) phantom
• All REGIUS cassettes in use
Procedure
• kVp: most commonly used clinical setting
• mAs: most commonly used clinical setting; or AEC setting
• Compress paddle on top of the 1cm of acrylic
• Select the appropriate patient and exam tag
• Calculate the mean S value of the reviewed images.
IMPORTANT
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
• This test is sensitive to variations in beam quality (kVp, target and lter material). Use an AEC mode that varies only
mAs, and does not allow variations in kVp, target and lter material.
• This test is also sensitive to variations in the patient support and anti-scatter grid.

Performance Criteria and Corrective Action
• Performance Criteria: The reported S value of the individual images should be with in +/- 15% from the mean value.
• Corrective Action: Ensure all images evaluated were taken in the same mode under the same X-ray conditions. Erase all
cassettes and repeat the test taking care that cassettes not intended for direct exposure are stored in an area not sub-
ject to scatter radiation.
• If a particular cassette and plate pair produces a value which falls far outside the performance criteria, remove that pair
and repeat the test. If the new results pass the test, patient examination may continue without using that cassette and
plate pair.
• The source of the problem shall be identied and corrective action shall be taken within 30 days of the test date. Patient
examination may continue during this period.
Documentation
• Record the results in the Table MP-15 (Inter-Plate Consistency (S value)) and the Table MP-S (MEDICAL PHYSICIST'S
MAMMOGRAPHY QC TEST SUMMARY).
