3.17.5 Performance Criteria and Corrective Action
Performance Criteria: No signicant artifacts should be observed.
Corrective Action: If artifact is present on the image, rotate acrylic 180 degrees, if artifact moves, then it is on the
acrylic.
If artifact is still in the same place, remove the paddle and repeat exposure. If artifact is not present then it is on the
paddle.
If artifact is still present, conduct the same test with lm/screen.
If artifact is still present, conduct the test again with a dierent cassette.
If artifacts persist, the medical physicist should consult with the interpreting radiologist as to whether the artifact is
clinically tolerable.
The source of the problem should be identied and corrective action shall be taken on the component(s) that caused
the failure within 30 days of the test date. Patient examination may continue during this period.
3.17.6 Documentation
Record the results in the Table MP-14 (Artifact Evaluation) and the Table MP-S (MEDICAL PHYSICIST'S
MAMMOGRAPHY QC TEST SUMMARY).
