1.3 Baseline Tests
Complete the installation of the mammography X-ray unit, Konica Minolta Xpress Digital Mammography System and
the display system (laser printer or diagnostic review workstation) before starting the QC testing.
Perform all the tests in Chapter 2 except for "2.2 Daily Operational Checks" and "2.9 Repeat Analysis", and all the
tests in Chapter 3, as the baseline tests. In the baseline tests, the following test items in Chapter 2 (QC Activities for
the technologist) may be covered by the same test item in Chapter 3 (QC Activities for the Medical Physicist): "2.3
Printer QC", "2.4 View Boxes and Viewing Conditions", "2.5 Monitor QC" and "2.7 Phantom Image Quality".
Consult your mammography X-ray unit vendor about the baseline tests for the mammography X-ray unit, namely,
"3.3 Tube Voltage Measurement and Reproducibility", "3.4 Beam Quality", "3.5 Radiation Output Rate" and "3.6 Aver-
age Glandular Dose".
Follow the manufacturer's QC guidelines about the baseline tests for display devices, namely, "2.3 Printer QC", "2.5
Monitor QC", "3.8 Printer QC" and "3.9 Monitor QC".
All the results of the measurements in the baseline tests should be recorded as baseline values. Choose one of the
phantom images as the baseline image to be used as a reference for future tests.
