Crush hazard! ALWAYS use safety
blocks in addition to jack when working under the
paver to prevent serious injury or even death.
Follow these procedures for replacing the front idler:
1. Park paver on level ground and jack up the front until
the machine is 4 - 5 inches from the ground.
2. Rotate the track so the master pin is at the rear
bottom of the front idler. (Figure 5-32)
3. Place a pan under the track tension cylinder relieft
to catch oil. Release track tension by screwing
the relief cartridge out of the manifold (about three
turns or until you hear the pressure release). (Page
5-45)
4. Drive out the master pin.
5. Use a winch or strap to lift front of the track away
from the idler.
6. Remove the top four bolts on the idler
slide bar on the side of the front idler.
(Figure 5-33)
7. Remove the cotter pin to detach the
track tension cylinder.
8. Carefully lift out the front idler.
9. Install new front idler.
10. Reinstall cylinder, securing with the
cotter pin.
11. Reinstall idler slide bar.
12. Reinstall tracks using Steps 5 - 10 on
