NOTE: Engine speed automatically increases to
2100 RPMs when the heat cycle is active.
NOTE: The engine speed automatically decreases to
idle after the heat cycle completes.
Overheating the screed can warp the
screed plate and possibly cause damage. If screed
extensions lock, allow the machine to cool before
attempting to extend or retract. Replace a warped
screed plate immediately.
Screed heat cycles can be controlled by automatic time
and temperature settings via the DM430 digital display
pave screen or operated manually.
To operate the electric screed heating system:
1. Start the paver and idle until the engine reaches
normal operating temperature.
2. Raise the screed plate two inches off the ground.
3. Press the Generator button on the
control panel once to activate the auto-
matic (default) heating process.
4. Navigate to the Pave screen in the DM430 digital
controller to set desired heating temperature and
duration if operating in AUTO mode. (Pages 4-22
and 4-23)
Once the heating function has been enabled, the
distribution/control box will apply electrical power to the
heating elements and the heating cycle will begin. The
heating cycle is timed to optimize the heat generated at
the screed plates.
NOTE: The idle throttle speed ceases to function
when the generator is on. When the
generator turns off, the idle functionality
returns.
NOTE: The generator is set at the factory to default
at 2100 RPMs.
Manual Tow PointsManual Tow Points
The tow points are an added convenience to the
operator for adjusting the depth of the asphalt. This
feature makes it possible to lay down an asphalt mat of
uniformly desired thickness. The standard tow points
require manual adjustment, but tow points can be
operated in AUTO mode if equipped with the optional
hydraulic tow points. (Page 4-48)
A screed height gauge is located on both sides of the
paver that provides the operator with a visual reference
for the tow point’s position.
Figure 4-48. Screed Elevation Gauge Location
Use the following procedure to manually adjust the tow
pointst:
1. Use the ight screw to adjust the tow pin to a neutral
position.
2. Remove tow point pin.
3. Adjust ight screw in the “thicker” position to raise
the tow point or “thinner” direction to lower the tow
point.
4. When desired height is achieved, replace pin and
repeat these steps on the opposite side.
