START-UP PROCEDURE
DO NOT leave the operator station
unattended while the paver is in gear or in motion.
Operator must return joysticks to the neutral position
and turn the RUN/STOP switch to the STOP position
before leaving the operator platform.
Verify there are no people, obstacles
or other equipment in the machine’s path before
starting the engine.
Using starting additives, such as
ether, is not recommended as severe engine damage
can occur.
To start the engine:
1. Ensure BOTH joysticks are in neutral (center). The
engine will not start unless both joysticks are in
the NEUTRAL position.
2. Insert key into the ignition and turn clockwise to the
RUN position. (Figure 4-1)
The DM430 digital controller will turn on,
indicating the system is in the “Wait to Start”
mode.
NOTE: An icon displaying a pair of joysticks will
illuminate in red on the DM430 digital
controller when a joystick(s) is out of neutral.
3. When the joysticks icon turns amber, turn the igni-
tion key to START to start the engine.
DO NOT hold the starter longer than
10 - 15 seconds. If the engine does not start, allow
the starter to cool two or three minutes.
4. Allow engine to warm up a few minutes before
moving paver for more efcient operation. In cold
weather let hydraulic oil warm to 60° before moving.
5. You must activate the control panel by pressing the
Activate Console button on the lower right keypad
to operate the paver. Three LED lights illuminate
green when a console is active
6. Set engine RPMs to 2400 RPMs (recommended
paving RPMs) in the DM430 digital display
controller (described in detail on the following
pages).
The engine’s low idle is set at 1300 RPMs, with a
maximum engine speed of 2400 RPMs. The engine
will remain at the operator-set RPMs after the joysticks
initially leave the neutral position. If the engine is at low
idle and the operator engages either of the following
functions, the engine will automatically idle up to the
preset RPMs:
Generator. 2100 RPMs
Auger. 1800 RPMs
Conveyor. 1800 RPMs
Once the joysticks return to the neutral position, the
engine will idle slow down to 1300 RPMs after eight (8)
seconds, provided the generator, auger or conveyor
functions are not engaged.
NOTE: The engine speed may be manually increased
to a maximum of 2400 RPMs if desired.
Stopping the EngineStopping the Engine
1. Move joysticks to the NEUTRAL position.
2. Press the Idle button on the engine screen on the
DM430 digital display. (Page 4-15)
3. Turn ignition key counterclockwise to the OFF posi-
tion and remove key.
NOTE: If for any reason the engine does not shut
down when key is turned off, push the red
E-Stop button on the upper right side of the
control panel.
