Powerproblemscanbedifficulttosolve.Forexample,ashortcircuitcanexistanywhereonanyofthe
powerdistributionbuses.Usually,ashortcircuitwillcausethepowersubsystemtoshutdownbecauseof
anovercurrentcondition.Todiagnoseapowerproblem,usethefollowinggeneralprocedure:
Step1.Turnofftheserveranddisconnectallpowercords.
Step2.Checkforloosecablesinthepowersubsystem.Alsocheckforshortcircuits,forexample,ifa
loosescrewiscausingashortcircuitonacircuitboard.
Step3.CheckforanyerrorsindicatedbytheoperatorinformationpanelorLCDoperatingpanelassembly
(see“Operatorinformationpanel”onpage19or“LCDoperatingpanelassembly”onpage19).
Step4.IfthechecklogLEDontheoperatorinformationpanelislit,checktheIMMeventlogforfaultyPwr
railandcompletethefollowingsteps.Table23“Componentsassociatedwithpowerrailerrors”
onpage88identifiesthecomponentsthatareassociatedwitheachPwrrailandtheorderin
whichtotroubleshootthecomponents.
a.Disconnectthecablesandpowercordstoallinternalandexternaldevices.Leavethe
power-supplycordsconnected.
b.ForPwrrail1error,completethefollowingsteps:
1.(Trainedtechnicianonly)Replacethesystemboard.
2.(Trainedtechnicianonly)Replacethemicroprocessor.
c.Forotherrailerrors(Pwrrail1error,seestep4b),removeeachcomponentthatisassociated
withthefaultyPwrrail,oneatatime,inthesequenceindicatedinTable23“Components
associatedwithpowerrailerrors”onpage88
,restartingtheservereachtime,untilthecause
oftheovercurrentconditionisidentified.
