4 Click on the START button then press the Zero key on the software console to zero the
machine extension display.
The "True Reading", "Measured Reading" and "Relative Reading" fields will now display
extension values.
Note that the RELATIVE READING is the "Zeroed" extension and this is the extension
value that is recorded during the calibration.
5 Select TENSION in the "Direction" drop down box.
6 Move the calibration device to the full range of the extensometer.
7 Check that the displayed extension value is within the required accuracy. If not, calculate
the correction factor using the formula shown below: -
Factor = Actual Extension
Displayed Extension
e.g. if the actual extension is 50.07mm and the displayed extension is 50.00mm, then the
correction factor is 50.07 / 50 = 0.9986.
8 If the error is to be corrected, view the "Bit Scale" field on the software console screen
and note the bit scale.
9 Multiply the original BIT SCALE value by the calculated correction factor then enter this
calculated value as the BIT SCALE.
e.g. if the bit scale is 0.0078 and the correction factor is 0.9986 then the new bit scale is
0.0078 * 0.9986 = 0.00778908.
10 Recheck the extension display and apply further corrections if required.
