LS SERIES SERVICE MANUAL
ISSUE 4.0 FAULT FINDING 2
Note that if the Emergency Stop button is pressed, the power will be disconnected from the
machine, so this should be checked if the machine shows no sign of power.
10.3 Analogue and Digital Supplies
The Analogue and Digital power supply is a commercial switched mode unit supply having 3
outputs of +5V, +15V and -15V and fault finding is restricted to measuring it's output voltages.
Lloyd Instruments Ltd have no circuit diagrams for this power supply so if the unit fails, it must be
replaced by a new one.
10.4 Motor Drive Supplies
The Motor Drive PCB is powered by a chassis mounted toroidal transformer which provides
approx. 33V AC for the LS1 variant machines and 50V AC for the LS2K5E and LS5S machines.
The secondary output of the transformer is protected by a 10 Amp fuse on the Motor Drive PCB so
this should be checked if a Motor Fault is given.
The AC from the mains transformer is full wave rectified and smoothed by a bridge rectifier and
smoothing capacitor on the Motor Drive PCB to give approximately +45V motor supply for the LS1
variant machines and +65V motor supply for the LS2K5E and LS5S machines.
10.5 Table of Power Supplies
All the supplies are referenced to chassis so the chassis can be used as the ground (0V) point
when taking voltage measurements. The voltages may be measured as shown in the tables in
section 6.
10.6 Error Messages
If the machine has an error condition, it will be displayed as text (in the selected language) on the
Full Control Console or as an error number on the Hand Held Remote.
The error numbers shown on the Hand Held Remote are listed below: -
Error Number Error Condition
1
Motor Drive Fault
Check the fuse on Motor Drive PCB
Check that the LED DS1 is lit on the Motor Drive PCB.
2
Upper Limit Switch Operated
If the crosshead actuator bar is not against a limit stop, check that the limit
switch rod is free and check the wiring to the switch
