4.12 Connecting with a PLC by Omron Corporation
Setting the communication conditions for the PLC
The settings on the PLC side are as shown below. Settings cannot be entered for some
items, depending on the model, but if a setting cannot be entered, it means that setting
is not needed.
Item Value Set
PLC main unit mode Monitor mode
Mode setting Higher-order link
Procedure 1:N
Communication speed setting 19200 bits/s
Data length 7 bits
Parity check Yes, Even
Stop bits 1 bit
Station No. No. 0
CTS specification Normally on
5 V supply Not supplied
Communication method RS232C
For most models of PLCs, the following method can be used for communication, but
some items may vary depending on the model. Please refer to the instruction for the
PLC being used when entering settings.
Communicating with the RS232C port of the CPU unit
The system areas should be set as indicated below.
Address Value set Setting contents
DM6600 0201 (HEX) PLC main unit mode setting (monitor mode)
DM6645 0001 (HEX) RS232C port mode setting (higher-order link)
DM6646 0004 (HEX) Communication conditions settings (19200 bits/s, 7 bits, even, 1 bit)
DM6668 0000 (HEX) Machine no. setting (Machine No. 0)
Communicating with a communication port
The system areas should be set as indicated below.
Communicating with Port A
Address Value set Setting contents
DM6600 0201 (HEX) PLC main unit mode setting (monitor mode)
DM6550 0001 (HEX) RS232C port mode setting (higher-order link)
DM6551 0004 (HEX) Communication conditions settings (19200 bits/s, 7 bits, even, 1 bit)
Communicating with Port B
Address Value set Setting contents
DM6600 0201 (HEX) PLC main unit mode setting (monitor mode)
DM6555 0001 (HEX) RS232C port mode setting (higher-order link)
DM6556 0004 (HEX) Communication conditions settings (19200 bits/s, 7 bits, even, 1 bit)
Communicating with a higher-order link interface unit
Always make sure the CPU mode is set to the monitor mode.
The baud rate is set using the DIP switches and rotary switch on the link interface unit.
For detailed information, please refer to the instruction manual of the unit being used.
