During this procedure, programming of the current outputs and “Short
address” (see Manual of the transmitters) of the transmitters should be
checked in laboratory circumstances. The loop current of the normal (non-
Ex) MultiCONT is max. 60 mA, and it is max. 22 mA for the Ex certified
version. If the loop current exceeds this value the voltage at the terminals
of the transmitters will be decreased to be too low for the transmitters to
start to operate. (There may happen that the transmitters could operate,
but HART signals will be distorted because the decreased terminal voltage
and communication may be failed or not be able to work.) In networks with
only one transmitter the short address of the unit can be 0, so the output of
the transmitter operates in 4-20mA range. In case of multiple transmitters
the short addresses should be set between 1…15 and then the current
output of the transmitters will be automatically limited to 4mA. The value of
this can be overrided by the fixed output current parameter (see Manual of
the transmitter). It is really important that loop current must not exceed the
given limit value. In addition to this, two or more instruments must not have
the same “Sort address” or “Long address” in order to provide error-free
operation.
Modification of the “Short address” can be performed with Eview
configuration software, or with the MultiCONT. In this case transmitters
should be connected and detected one by another and set the appropriate
“Short address”. The “Long address” of the device is given by the
manufacturer, which cannot be modified by the user.
