8.6 Frequently Asked Questions
Is my music center “noisy”?
The music center does not have any fan. All of its components are developed
for very low energy consumption. We measured an average power consump-
tion of 0.6 watts during stand-by and 7 watts during playback.
Can my music center just play my music CDs?
You may insert a music CD and listen to it without importing it into the music
center. The internal database is scanned for the meta data (Artist, title, track
titles) and it is displayed automatically (See section 2.2 «Playing a music CD»
on page 10).
Do I need an Internet connection to see the title of my CD on my music center’s display?
No, the music center has an integrated database fi lled with information of
about 2 million CDs. But an Internet connection is useful for getting the latest
information (See section 4.10 «CD database» on page 27).
What is “Multiroom Streaming”?
The music center can stream music to up to fi ve different devices (called
“clients” or “satellites”). You may listen to different songs in different rooms at
the same time (See chapter 5 «Networking» on page 29).
What kind of components or “satellites” are usable for “Multiroom Streaming”?
You may connect other music centers or PCs (i.e. with iTunes) to your music
center. The UPnP AV protocol is supported and the music center can commu-
nicate with all other components supporting this standard. In addition Olive
offers a wireless music receiver called Sonata. For more details please visit us
at www.olive.us.
What is meant by “integration with iTunes”?
The music center supports Appleʼs Bonjour technology and acts in a network
like any other iTunes server/client, presenting its own library and looking for
other libraries. The music center “sees” all published music servers and can
play their songs. Equally other clients “see” the music center and can play
its songs. Playlists can be used, too (See section 5.3 «Your music center and
iTunes» on page 30).
Can the WLAN option be disabled?
Yes (See section 7.6 «WLAN» on page 35).
