CHECKING
I - PREPARATION OPERATION FOR CHECK
a Remove:
-the engine cover,
-the injector rail protector (see 13B, Diesel injec-
tion, Injector rail protector: Removal - Refitting,
page 13B-70) ,
-the heater plugs (see 13C, Preheating, Heater
plugs Removal - Refitting, page 13C-3) .
a Fit the hose end piece (Mot. 1592) in place of the
heater plug on the cylinder to be checked.
a Use an open-jawed spanner to moderately tighten:
-the hose end piece (Mot. 1592),
-the diesel compression gauge.
a Connect a self-contained starter.
a Force the vehicle's + after ignition feed.
a Connect the diagnostic tool.
a Run commands:
- RZ009: "VEHICLE FUNCTION PROGRAM-
MING",
- VP036: "INHIBIT FUEL SUPPLY".
II - TEST OPERATION
a Run the starter.
a Proceed through the diagram sheet.
a Carry out the same procedure for the other cylin-
ders.
III - FINAL OPERATION
a Remove:
- the diesel compression gauge,
- the hose end piece (Mot. 1592).
a Refit:
- the heater plugs (see 13C, Preheating, Heater
plugs Removal - Refitting, page 13C-3) ,
- the injector rail protector (see 13B, Diesel injec-
tion, Injector rail protector: Removal - Refitting,
page 13B-70) ,
- the engine cover.

Note:
The engine will be driven by the starter for 20
seconds, without being started.
Note:
Put the vehicle under forced + after ignition feed
as soon as the starter has been stopped (in
order to maintain the inhibition of the engine star-
ting and to be able to measure the compression
of the other cylinders).
Note:
It is necessary to wait for at least 10 seconds
before starting the engine each time (the starter
will not run due to its thermal protection).
