2.1.6 Transport and registration mechanism
The grip roller and vertical transport roller feed paper
from the paper feed unit to the lower transport unit. The
pinch roller transports it to the registration roller.
The registration roller corrects skew and aligns the
image and the paper. The paper flexes about
8 mm when paper is stopped by the registration rollers.
The registration motor (a stepper motor) drives the
registration roller, and clutch slippage, as found in other
equipment, has been eliminated.
Functions of the registration sensor
1. Jam detection (ON and OFF checks)
2. Paper feed timing control (see the timing chart
section for details).
2.1.7 Drive mechanism
The paper feed motor rotates the paper feed roller, and
the registration motor rotates the registration roller.
Other rollers are driven by the main motor. The drive
force from the main motor is transmitted by the vertical
transport unit timing belt to drive the rollers.
