9-14 Ribbon Sensor Adjustment
Additional equipment required: Digital Multimeter
STEP PROCEDURE
Refer to Section 4-2 for access to main PCB
1. Connect the power cable to the printer and AC outlet. Turn the
printer ON.
2. Set the VR4 potentiometer on the main circuit board fully clockwise.
Fig. 9-51 & 9-52
3. Set the digital multimeter to DC voltage measurement mode.
Connect (+) probe of the multimeter to test pin CH10 and the lead
from the (-) probe of the multimeter to test pin labelled CH1 on the
main circuit board. Fig. 9-53 & 9-54
NOTE: The ribbon end sensor is detecting the rotation of the carbon
ribbon unwind spindle. To check the high and the low voltage level
from the sensor, it is necessary to turn the spindle manually.
4. Refer to Section 1-6 to locate the ribbon sensor. For Low level
adjustment, rotate the ribbon unwind shaft to align one of the "slots"
with the sensor. Then adjust the electrical level with VR4
potentiometer on the main circuit board so that it measures +0.5 V
or less.
5. For High level adjustment, rotate the ribbon unwind shaft to align
one of the "tabs" with the sensor. Check the electrical level. If the
level difference is + 2.0 V more than the Low level, it is acceptable.
If not, return to STEP 4 and readjust.
6. Standard values: Low level (slot): +0.5 V or less.
High level (tab): Low level +2.0 V or higher.
NOTE: Adjust low level to achieve the biggest difference between
each level by repeating the process. If these values do not result,
try the following:
a) Repeat the process
b) Clean the sensor
c) Replace the sensor
