Front-Panel Target LEDs
Refer to Figure 1.1 on page 1.2 in Section 1: Introduction and Specifications
for the arrangement of the target LEDs on the front panel of the SEL-587Z.
Table 4.8 lists the front-panel targets. The relay updates these targets during a
relay trip event.
Nonvolatile
Targets
The relay stores target information in nonvolatile memory. If the relay is
powered off, the relay restores previous targets at cold start (initiation) time
when powered on again.
Target
Reset/Lamp Test
When the Target Reset/Lamp Test front-panel pushbutton is pressed, all front-
panel LEDs are illuminated for one (1) second, and then the Fault Type target
LEDs (87, 50, 51, A, B, C, and G) are extinguished.

87 Any one of the 87 elements (87A1, 87A2, 87B1, 87B2, 87C1, 87C2) asserts
50 Any one of the 50 elements (50P1, 50P2, 50P3, 50A1, 50A2,
50B1, 50B2, 50C1, 50C2, 50Q1, 50Q2, 50G1, 50G2) asserts
51 Any one of the 51T elements (51PT, 51AT, 51BT, 51CT, 51QT, 51GT) asserts
A 51PT, 50P1, 50P2, or 50P3 element asserts and the A current exceeds
the setting or an A-phase element (87A1, 87A2, 50A1, 50A2, 51AT) asserts
B 51PT, 50P1, 50P2, or 50P3 element asserts and the B current exceeds
the setting or a B-phase element (87B1, 87B2, 50B1, 50B2, 51BT) asserts
C 51PT, 50P1, 50P2, or 50P3 element asserts and the C current exceeds
the setting or a C-phase element (87C1, 87C2, 50C1, 50C2, 51CT) asserts
G Any one of the ground elements (50G1, 50G2, 51GT) asserts
