1.3 Correct handling
To ensure that the safety precautions are observed and that the device is used for its in-
tended purpose, it is important that:
•
The system be used in accordance with the technical data and specifications regarding
usage, assembly, connection, ambient, and operating conditions. These conditions are
governed by the order documents, user information (rating plates etc.), and the docu-
mentation supplied with the system, which includes diese Operating Instructions.
•
Users act in accordance with the local, system-specific conditions and with due consid-
eration paid to operational hazards and specifications.
•
All of the measures required to maintain the device, for example, transportation and stor-
age, as well as maintenance and inspection requirements, are provided.
1.4 Safety precautions
Basic safety precautions to prevent damage and injury
Using the GM35 gas analyzer incorrectly can lead to personal injury or damage to property.
‡
To prevent damage, the safety information and precautions must be observed.
If der GM35 is used as a sensor in conjunction with a control system, the operator must
ensure that a failure or malfunction on of the GM35 cannot lead to operating conditions
that cause damage or lead to other hazardous operating conditions.
Safety precautions for electrical equipment
Since the GM35 system components are items of electrical equipment designed for use in
industrial power installations, the relevant standards and regulations must be observed.
‡
When working on power connections or with live components, ensure that the power
supply is switched off.
Safety precautions for gas
‡
Suitable protective clothing and a protective mask must be worn if the measurement gas
is hot and/or corrosive, or has a high dust content.
‡
In pressurized ducts, never open the housing or switch off the purge air supply without
taking suitable safety precautions.
Troubleshooting precautions
The operator must ensure that
•
The maintenance personnel can be alerted immediately and at any time.
•
The maintenance personnel is qualified to respond to malfunctions on the GM35 and
associated system malfunctions correctly.
•
Suitable tools are available at all times.
•
Malfunctions are analyzed by qualified personnel, faults corrected, and operation opti-
mized to prevent similar malfunctions in the future.
1.5 Purge air failure
In GM35 measuring systems equipped with a purge air supply, a failure of the purge air sup-
ply will require measures to be taken immediately or within a short time (depending on the
installation conditions) to protect the measuring system.
‡
For measures to correct a purge air failure, see
chapter 9.2, page 81
