8.6 MANUAL CALIBRATION OF THICKNESS GAUGE
The “Manual” calibration of the 1011TS thickness transducer allows you to view or modify the actual
calibration parameters used by the 1010P for wall thickness measurement.
To access the manual calibration menu, enter the “Calibration” menu and then press to highlight
the “Manual” menu item.
Press to enter the Manual calibration list. The parameters listed below can be edited by pressing
the key after highlighting the desired parameter.
Zero Set (uSecs)
The “Zero Set” item indicates the delay time (or fixed time) of the ultrasonic thickness transducer. This
parameter represents the fixed time the ultrasonic signal spends inside the probe itself and is auto-
matically subtracted from the total transit time. If you have not already performed the automatic calibra-
tion using the built-in calibration blocks, then you should enter the values “T0” (printed on the back of
the thickness transducer) into this menu cell. You will need to remove the transducer from the holder to
read this value. (Note: Changing the “Zero Set” value will overwrite any previous automatic calibra-
tion.)
Select Material
The “Select Material” item enables you to select a pipe material from a list of the most common mate-
rials. Selecting a pipe material automatically loads the sound velocity information (Vpl) for review or
editing. If your pipe material is not found in the built-in list of materials, then you can select any material
and then modify its sound velocity to match that of the actual pipe. (see “Modify Vpl” menu item).
Modify Vpl (ips)
This menu item shows the longitudinal sound velocity of the selected pipe material in inches per sec-
ond. If the sound velocity of your pipe material is accurately known, then you can edit this value for a
more precise wall thickness measurement. The table below shows the longitudinal sound velocity of
common pipe materials, some of which are already included in the 1010 wall thickness gauge material
list.
NOTE: Changing the “Vpl” value will overwrite any previous automatic calibration.
